  53.    be charged for the cost of the diskettes, shipping, and handling, not to
  54.    exceed $10 total.

  56. 2. The files and programs on the disks may not be modified, deleted, nor

  59. 3. The programs cannot be sold as part of some other more inclusive package.

  61. 4. The programs cannot be "rented" or "leased" to others.

  103.                       PRINTING A COPY OF THE MANUAL
  104.  
  105.  
  106. If you received this disk from a friend, associate, computer club, or
  107. bulletin board, then you are evaluating the program.
  108.  
  109. We have tried to provide you with everything necessary to evaluate
  110. PC-Calc+.  The program utilizes clear, informative menus.  Help screens are
  111. always a keystroke away.  F1 help is context sensitive, and F2 help
  112. provides quick summaries of different features.  A reference card is
  113. provided at the end of this file.
  114.  
  115. This is sufficient for most people to do a good evaluation of the program.
  116. However, some people prefer to have a complete copy of the printed manual.
  117.  
  118. A complete copy of the printed manual for PC-Calc+ is available on a
  119. floppy disk, to help you with your evaluation of the program. It's about
  120. 300 pages long, so you'll need a lot of time, patience, and paper to print
  121. it out.
  122.  
  123. The manual on disk has been mailed to all computer clubs, user groups,
  124. shareware disk dealers, and bulletin board operators that ButtonWare is
  125. aware of.  You can obtain the manual on disk from one of these groups.
  126. Just ask for the PC-Calc+ disk number 3, or the PC-Calc+ manual on disk.

  128. In order to keep costs down, the manual on disk is not included with
  129. purchased copies of the program and cannot be purchased directly from
  130. ButtonWare.  Purchased copies of PC-Calc+ include a complete printed copy
  131. of the 320 page manual, typeset and bound.

  133. To print the manual:
  134. *   Put the PC-Calc+ manual on disk into the A: drive
  135. *   type   A:DOC     and press the (Enter) key
  136.  
  137. If your printer jams and you need to restart the printing at a point midway
  138. through the document, or if you need to print a wider left margin, you can
  139. enter other commands on the same line with DOC.  Here is how the commands
  140. are entered:
  141.  
  142.     A:DOC  p=pageskip m=margin
  143.  
  144. Replace "pageskip" above with the number of pages to skip over before
  145. printing begins.  For example, if you say  A:DOC p=50, then 50 pages will
  146. be skipped over before printing begins.  Replace "margin" above with the
  147. number of blank spaces to print at the left of the document.  To print 10
  148. blanks spaces at the left, say  A:DOC m=10.

  155. The following notes pertain to this version of PC-Calc+, but were too
  156. late to make it into the manual.

  159. The PC-Calc+ Utility Disk contains the following printer control code files:
  160.    EPSON.PRN   -  for Epson and IBM dot matrix printers
  161.    HP.PRN      -  for HP Laser Jet printers (independent of the cartridge,
  162.                     courier portrait and landscape defaults).
  163.    NEC_PIN.PRN - for NEC Pinwriter dot matrix printers
  164.    OKIDATA.PRN - for Okidata dot matrix printers
  165.    TANDY.PRN   - for Tandy (Radio Shack) DMP dot matrix printers
  166.    TOSHIBA.PRN - for Toshiba dot matrix printers
  167. See the section "Installing PC-Calc+" for information on loading the
  168. appropriate file for your printer.

  170. If graphs don't print correctly on your IBM Proprinter, try setting Dip
  171. Switch #6 to ON.  The switch is accessed by snapping open the small
  172. compartment cover on the left side of the printer (as you face it from the
  173. front.)  Before setting the switch, turn the printer power off.  Please
  174. refer to the section "Switch Settings" in your Proprinter manual for more
  175. information.  Note: This step is not required to print PC-Calc+ reports.

  177. When using the CONVERT program on a monochrome graphics display, you must
  178. start the program by typing:
  179.    CONVERT /GREEN

  181. When converting Lotus 1-2-3 spreadsheets to PC-Calc+ or PC-Calc+
  182. spreadsheets to Lotus 1-2-3, functions which are defined in only one of the
  183. programs, and functions which are different between the two programs will
  184. be converted to text.  Some Lotus 1-2-3 spreadsheets may be too big to load
  185. into PC-Calc+.

  187. We have included the following sample spreadsheet files:
  188.    - LOAN.PCC (on the PC-Calc+ Utility Disk).  This spreadsheet can be
  189.      used as a loan amortization calculator.  You can calculate either
  190.      the loan amount, number of payments, interest rate or payment amount.

  193. taking a look at:

  201. CORRECTIONS TO THE USER'S GUIDE
  202.  
  203. Page ii and Page 290 list incorrect hours for technical support.  The
  204.           technical support line is answered between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  205.           Monday through Friday.  The bulletin board is available all
  206.           other hours except 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday through Friday.
  207.  
  208. Page 11, steps 5 and 10 assume PC-Calc+ has been installed on a hard
  209.           disk, and that you are logged on the PC-Calc+ subdirectory.
  210.           If you installed PC-Calc+ on floppy disks, or if you are not
  211.           logged on the PC-Calc+ subdirectory, you must first enter
  212.           the path (drive and subdirectory) containing the printer files
  213.           and then press Enter.

  215. Page 208, second example on the page should read:

  265.                        PC-CALC+ SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  266.  
  267.  
  268. PC-Calc+ runs on all of the IBM series of personal computers, all
  269. compatible, and most "nearly compatible" computers.  PC-Calc+ is designed
  270. to work with any printer.
  271.  
  272. PC-Calc+ requires the following:
  273.  
  274. * Minimum 280K available RAM (more is recommended).  Use the DOS CHKDSK
  275.   program to determine the amount of available RAM.  The last line of
  276.   information from CHKDSK will show the amount of available memory.  This
  277.   line should show at least 280,000 bytes free.  For more information on
  278.   CHKDSK, please refer to your DOS manual.
  279.  
  280. * Two 360K floppy disk drives, or one 360K floppy drive and one hard drive,
  281.   or one 720K floppy disk drive.  Both 5-1/4'' and 3-1/2'' disk drives are
  282.   supported.
  283.  
  284. * PC-DOS or MS-DOS version 2.0 or later.
  285.  
  286. * A monochrome, graphics, color, EGA or VGA monitor with 80 column display.
  287.   Note: If you are using a monochrome monitor, you must also have the
  288.   Hercules monochrome graphics card installed in order to use the graphing
  289.   feature of PC-Calc+.
  290.  
  291. * A printer is optional.  PC-Calc+ will support any printer.  Printer files
  292.   have been included for the most popular printers.  You can also create
  293.   your own printer files.
  294. 
  295.                             INSTALLING PC-CALC+
  296.  
  297.  
  298. INSTALLING ON A FLOPPY DISK
  299.  
  300. Follow the steps below to make a working copy of your PC-Calc+ disks:
  301.  
  302. 1.  Put your DOS system disk in drive A and a blank disk in drive B.
  303. The disk in drive B will become your new PC-Calc+ working disk.
  304.  
  305. 2.  If you don't see the normal DOS prompt on the screen, usually A>, then
  306. start DOS in the usual manner.  If you don't yet know how to do this,
  307. please consult your DOS manual for further information.
  308.  
  309. 3.  Make sure that you are logged onto drive A.  To do this, type
  310.  
  311.       A:
  312.  
  313. and then press Enter.
  314.  
  315. 4.  Format the disk in drive B.  To do this, type
  316.  
  317.       FORMAT B:
  318.  
  319. and then press Enter.
  320.  
  321. 5.  When the format process is complete, remove the DOS disk from
  322. drive A and replace it with the PC-Calc+ Program Disk.
  323.  
  324. 6.  Copy the PC-Calc+ files to the disk in drive B.  To do this, type
  325.  
  326.       COPY A:*.* B:
  327.  
  328. and then press Enter.
  329.  
  330. 7.  Remove the disk from drive B and label it as your "PC-Calc+ Working
  331. Disk".
  332.  
  333. 8.  Repeat steps 1 through 7 using the PC-Calc+ Utility Disk instead of the
  334. PC-Calc+ Program Disk.
  335.  
  336.  
  337. INSTALLING ON A HARD DISK
  338.  
  339. 1.  Make sure that you booted up with DOS in the normal fashion.  You
  340. should see the DOS prompt on your screen before you continue with this
  341. procedure.
  342.  
  343. 2.  Make sure that you are logged onto your hard disk.  For example, if
  344. your hard disk is drive C, you should see a DOS prompt that looks something
  345. like this C>
  346.  
  347. 3.  Make sure you are in the root directory.  To do this, type
  348.  
  349.      CD \
  350.  
  351. and then press Enter.
  352.  
  353. 4.  Make a subdirectory where you would like the PC-Calc+ program files to
  354. reside.  If you already have a subdirectory in mind and it already exists,
  355. skip this step.  Otherwise, type
  356.  
  357.      MD \PCC
  358.  
  359. and then press Enter.
  360.  
  361. Note: The above example assumes that you want to name the subdirectory PCC.
  362. If you have some other name in mind, you can substitute your name for PCC
  363. in the above example, and in the other commands which follow.
  364.  
  365. 5.  Change directories to the subdirectory which will contain the PC-Calc+
  366. program files.  To do this, type
  367.  
  368.      CD \PCC
  369.  
  370. and then press Enter.
  371.  
  372. 6.  Place the PC-Calc+ Program Disk in drive A.
  373.  
  374. 7.  Copy the PC-Calc+ files to your subdirectory on the hard disk.  To do
  375. this, type
  376.  
  377.      COPY A:*.*
  378.  
  379. and then press Enter.
  380.  
  381. 8.  Remove the PC-Calc+ Program Disk from drive A.  Repeat steps 6 and 7
  382. using the PC-Calc+ Utility Disk instead of the PC-Calc+ Program Disk.

  384. 9.  Store the PC-Calc+ disks in a safe place.
  385.  
  386.  
  387. 3-1/2" DISK VERSION
  388.  
  389. The 3-1/2" disk version of PC-Calc+ contains only one disk.  All files
  390. normally found on the PC-Calc+ Utility Disk have been included on the
  391. PC-Calc+ Program Disk.  If you are using the 3-1/2" disk version of
  392. PC-Calc+, all references to the "PC-Calc+ Utility Disk" can be changed to
  393. the "PC-Calc+ Program Disk".
  394.

  396. PREVIOUS USERS OF PC-CALC
  397.  
  398. PC-Calc+ stores spreadsheet files in a different format than previous
  399. versions of PC-Calc.  You will need to convert your current spreadsheet
  400. files to the new format before using them with PC-Calc+.
  401.  
  402. To convert spreadsheet files created with previous versions of PC-Calc, you
  403. must run the program CONVERT.  Select option O of the CONVERT menu to
  404. convert old PC-Calc data.  For more information on the CONVERT program,
  405. please see Appendix A of the PC-Calc+ manual.
  406.  
  407.  
  408. HARDWARE CONFIGURATION AND PRINTER FILES
  409.  
  410. The PC-Calc+ Utility Disk contains a default configuration file and several
  411. default printer files.  These default files are provided for your
  412. convenience.  You do not have to use these default files.
  413.  
  414. Default Configuration File
  415.  
  416. The file COLOR.PRO contains screen color definitions for color monitors.
  417. If you have a color monitor and want to use the default colors, copy the
  418. file COLOR.PRO to PCCALC.PRO.  The new PCCALC.PRO file must be on the same
  419. drive and subdirectory containing the PCC.EXE file.
  420.  
  421. If you have installed PC-Calc+ on a floppy disk, place your "PC-Calc+
  422. Working Disk" in drive A.  This is the disk you created in the section
  423. Installing on a Floppy Disk.  Place the PC-Calc+ Utility Disk in drive B.
  424. Type
  425.  
  426.     COPY B:COLOR.PRO A:PCCALC.PRO
  427.  
  428. and then press Enter.
  429.  
  430. The next time you start PC-Calc+, the default screen colors will
  431. automatically be loaded from the file PCCALC.PRO.
  432.  
  433. Note: You can change the screen colors at any time using the Configure,
  434. Display command.  Any other color settings you make will automatically be
  435. saved in your spreadsheet files (filename.PCC).
  436.  
  437. Default Printer Files
  438.  
  439. Printer files have been included for many popular printers.  If a printer
  440. file has been included for your printer, we recommend you install the print
  441. file now.  Otherwise, you can create a printer file later using the
  442. Print/Graph, Escape codes command.
  443.  
  444. To load a printer file, follow these steps:
  445.  
  446. 1.  Log on to the drive and subdirectory containing your PC-Calc+ program
  447. file.  Start PC-Calc+ by typing
  448.  
  449.      PCC
  450.  
  451. and then pressing Enter.
  452.  
  453. 2.  With the cell pointer in cell A1, press / to display the main
  454. menu.
  455.  
  456. 3.  Press L to select the (L)oad/Save option of the main menu.
  457.  
  458. 4.  Press P to select the (P) Load print codes option of the Load/Save
  459. menu.
  460.  
  461. 5.  You will be asked for the path containing the file to load.  Just
  462. press Enter.
  463.  
  464. 6.  You will be shown a list of different printer files.  Move the
  465. highlight bar to the printer file for your printer.  Type the drive and
  466. subdirectory containing the printer files and press Enter.
  467.  
  468. 7.  Now you need to save the printer codes to the PCCALC.PRO file.
  469. Press / again to display the main menu.
  470.  
  471. 8.  Press L to select the (L)oad/Save option of the main menu.
  472.  
  473. 9.  Press D to select the Save configuration option of the Load/Save
  474. menu.
  475.  
  476. 10.  You will be asked for the path to save the configuration file.  Type
  477. the drive and subdirectory containing the printer files and press Enter.
  478.  
  479. 11a.  If you see a file called PCCALC, move the highlight bar to this
  480. file and press Enter.
  481.  
  482. 11b.  If you do not see a file called PCCALC, press Enter with the
  483. highlight bar on the file New_File.  You will be asked to type the
  484. name for the new file.  Type
  485.  
  486.       PCCALC
  487.  
  488. and press Enter.
  489.  
  490. PC-Calc+ will store the printer codes you just loaded in the file
  491. PCCALC.PRO. The next time you start PC-Calc+, the default printer
  492. codes will automatically be loaded from the file PCCALC.PRO.

  494. Note: You can change the printer codes at any time using the Print/Graph,
  495. Escape codes command.  The printer information is automatically stored in
  496. your spreadsheet files (filename.PCC).

  506. To start PC-Calc+, log on to the drive and path containing the PC-Calc+
  507. program file, and type:

  511. and then press Enter.  (Note: If you have placed the PC-Calc+ drive and
  512. subdirectory in your path using the DOS PATH command, you don't have to
  513. be logged on the PC-Calc+ drive and subdirectory to start the program).

  515. There are several command line parameters which can be used when you start
  516. PC-Calc+.  These command line parameters are listed below:
